4.1 Renaissance (14th – 17th century)

Shiro no Fiorentina (白のフィオレンティーナ)

This is about a girl who lives in Renaissance Italy who had the talent of a great artist. Without any formal training, her paintings were beyond beautiful. However, that was a time period where women are viewed as inappropriate to become a painter. But, she perseveres and becomes an artist who is recognize by likes of Michangelo, and Leonardo da vinci.

Kakan no Madonna (花冠のマドンナ)

The main character is Leonora, the daughter of an impoverished noble of Padua. She is a beautiful silver-haired, emerald-green-eyed girl and very good at fighting with the sword. One day, she is forced to marry an arrogant young noble, but she discovers on the day of their wedding that this man intends to use her to become king of Italy because she is involved in an ancient Italian legend: Leonara is the girl shown on “Kakan no Madonna” (Madonna of the Flower Crown), a famous painting drawn by Leonardo DaVinci. There exists a legend that tells whoever gets the legendary sword “Emerald Lion” will unite and rule over Italy. And the secret hiding-place of the sword can be found with “Kakan no Madonna” – Leonara….

Cantarella (カンタレラ)

From birth, Cesare Borgia is surrounded by shadows. Damned by his own father, hated by his closest brother, separated from the sister who loves him, and driven by the demons of Hell itself, his quest for power threatens to set the world of Renaissance Italy ablaze-  unless one innocent person can drive away the poisonous shadows ravaging him! Cesare (チェーザレ -破壊の創造者)

Bookish and naive, Angelo da Canossa is unprepared for life as a student in a university that hums with tension and intrigue in Renaissance Italy. Will his innocence remain intact when a chance encounter with the charismatic Cesare draws him ever deeper into the darker side of the Renaissance?

4.2 Reformation

i. Tudor period –  Elizabethan (1558 – 1603)   

Nanatsu no Erudorado (7つの黄金郷)

After ten years of sailing abroad , Captain Drake and team was retuning home, England. On board, were the pair of Redford Twins – Olivier and Errol. When Olivier was  4 years old, she was kidnapped and her back was tattooed with letters “EL DORADO”. The tattoo were supposed to be the key (map) to the hidden treasures in the lost city of Inca. Vatican and Spain wanted Olivie (i.e. the golden treasures) as a tool to control England, so they capture Olivie’s mother and imprisoned her in an unknown island. Olivie’s adventurous journey thus began…..

Saradinaasa (サラディナーサ )

The strong influence and power of Spanish navy, with a strong backing and alliance with Frontera Family, has enabled Spain to become the foremost kingdom in Europe during its Golden Age.  But the tie between Frontera and the Royalty was under the threat under the reign of Philip II…..

Tyrian’s stepfather (a notorious womanizer) decides to remarry, and his victim is a sickeningly sweet and innocent girl named…. Juliet. But the girl is kidnapped off of Tyrian’s ship, first by pirates and then by more pirates in the form of our dashing Luminous Red Benedict. The neatly woven threads of conspiracy which have been supporting Tyrian’s life begin to unravel, and he flees to Spain at last. Captain Red redoubles his pursuit. Conflict between Tyrian Persimmon (ancestor of one Major Klaus Heinz von dem Eberbach) and Luminous Red Benedict (AKA, pirate ancestor of one Dorian Red Gloria).

El Halcon (エル・アルコン-鷹-)

El Halcon is a prequel series to Nanatsu no Umi Nanatsu no Sora (“Seven Seas, Seven Skies”). Set from 1581 to 1586 with flashbacks further into the past, this is the story of Tyrian Persimmon. Born to a Spanish mother with an English husband in this era of conflict between the two contries, Tyrian favors Spain. His father suspects that Tyrian is not his son because he doesn’t look like the man at all, and regularly beats him. His mother’s lover is discovered to be a Spanish spy and flees the country. Tyrian is determined to join the navy and eventually rejoin Geraldo. At the age of 19 he begins to make his ruthless way up the ranks of the English navy.

ビオランテ (風間宏子)

Story was set in England at the Tudor period.

Elsinore’s parents were killed as the family was involved in a political plot when she was a child. Since then,  Elsinore disguised her identity as a boy, in order to seek revenge for the death of her parents…..

ii. House of Bourbon (French) – Louis XIV (1643 – 1715)

Burubon no Fuuin (ブルボンの封印)

Seal of the Bourbons – James, handsome, well-educated, and brilliant, is the adopted son of a family prominent in the English aristocracy. James is curious about his origins and wants to know why he was abandoned. Unknown to James, he is the son of the former King of France, Louis XIII, and the elder brother of King Louis XIV. In fact, James and the present king are twins. Louis XIII could not have children for a long time. When finally he had a baby boy he immediately announced that a prince, the heir to the throne of France, had been born. But just after this a second boy was delivered and in the case of twins the second one born is considered older than the first. The king thought it would be a bad omen if he had to announce a different heir. The second boy was James…..

Arishia shiro no rinbu
(アリシア白の輪舞 -鉄仮面の秘密)

Based on the same story written by the same author of Burubon no Fuuin (see above).

Jotei Ecatherina (女帝エカテリーナ)

Through the biography of the French sovereign Henri Troyat, Ikeda Ryoko decides to transpose the life, the loves and the diplomatic corps of “Catherine the Great” to paper. The result is a historical fresco of rare fidelity to the original story.

4.3 Exploration and Conquest   

HOME (ホーム)

A historical Shoujo about Spain and Japan. Maria lives a quiet peaceful life in Spain except for the constant affections of Antonio, but fate changes when Maria trips onto Koujirou, a samurai.

Umi no Kishidan (海の綺士団)

海の綺士団(17) 〈完結〉 (冬水社・いち*ラキコミックス)

It’s the 16th century and the knights of the Mediterranean country Malta take pride in being the strongest in the world. Aciel is a beautiful lady-knight who gradually makes her way into the group of the knights, despite the fact it’s forbidden for women to be knights….

4.4 Enlightenment

Versailles no Bara (ベルサイユのばら)

A classic manga about Oscar François de Jarjeyes, a girl who was raised as a boy by her family and who ends up being part of the guard of the French Royal Family right before the French Revolution. Oscar has a deep friendship with Marie Antoinette, although they both eventually fall in love with the same man….

Marybell (マリーベル)
